Dry Needling

What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique that involves using thin needles to target specific points in your muscles, tendons, or connective tissues. It's called "dry" needling because no medication or substance is injected through the needle.

During a dry needling session, your physical therapist will insert the needle into your skin and gently move it within the affected area. When the needle is inserted into the trigger point, it can elicit a response from your body, such as a muscle twitch or a sensation of pressure. This reaction helps to release tension in the muscle, improve blood flow, and promote the healing process. The therapist may target multiple trigger points during a session, depending on your specific condition.

Dry needling is often used in conjunct with other therapies, such as exercise and soft tissue mobilization, to alleviate musculoskeletal pain, improve flexibility, and restore normal function. It can be helpful for various conditions, including muscle strains, pelvic pain, tendonitis, chronic pain, headaches, and sports injuries. In order to book a dry needling session, a physical therapy evaluation (pelvic floor or orthopedic) must be completed first.
